Paid Advertising Mistakes You Should Avoid on Social Media Platforms

Before you apply the tips below, be 100% sure that your ideal customers use the social media platform you are considering advertising on. Failure to do this would result in wasted time and financial resources.

Let's proceed...

  1. Not studying advertising best practices before running an advertising campaign on a particular social media platform.
  2. Not clarifying your social media advertising goals, strategy, and success measuring criteria.
  3. Failure to create an image of your ideal customer based on things like their occupation, age, location, marital status, hobbies, interests, and income brackets.
  4. Bad copy-writing or not testing your advertising language before running an advert.
  5. Not studying your competitors, their social media pages, and how they advertise.
  6. Over-copying how your competitors advertise.
  7. Using low-quality visuals (graphics, videos, and animations).
  8. Using too much texts (words) in your advertising post.
  9. Not targeting a broad audience or being too specific about your target audience.
  10. Impatience: This could be in terms of giving up to early or changing your advertising contents and targeting criteria too often or too early.
  11. Using only one advertising format or style all the time.
  12. Not experimenting with at least two advertising formats to see which one gets the best results.
  13. Not targeting look alike audiences or audiences with the same features as your current customers.
  14. Ignoring ad-frequency or showing your advert too often to the same person - this can reduce your advertising results and piss off a potential customer.
  15. Failing to track your social media advertising results to see if they are helping you achieve your advertising goals.
  16. Not learning from initial mistakes.

Extra Tip: Do not run a social media advert until you have shared at least 15 educational contents with respect to your services or products. Also understand how your ideal customers think or what they are most likely to engage with on a particular social media platform before you advertise to them there.
